…look no further than S.W.A.T. Laser Tag’s kids birthday events!
S.W.A.T Laser Tag South Africa has operations in KZN, Cape Town and Gauteng and we continuously get feedback from parents telling us how their child’s birthday party laser tag experience is still a popular topic of conversation, months or even years after the game has ended.
Our laser tag events generally last for two hours, and our instructors have extensive experience to ensure that your young one and their friends have an exhilarating and unforgettable time. Our laser tag parties are suitable for boys and girls aged six and older and as such make for great birthday party games for young kids.
Kids nowadays are so used to playing computer games, Xbox, PlayStation and spending time on their mobiles; – a far cry from the days of cowboys and crooks and hide and seek. S.W.A.T Laser Tag provides kids with the opportunity to immerse themselves in a game that is hands-on and interactive, while still incorporating the fun element of modern day technology.
A big attraction of the laser tag experience for parents especially; is the fact that it is a safe, clean activity. No dirty clothes, no increased risk of injury resulting from direct contact and no tears! You can rest assured that fellow parents can put their trust in us and – by default – in you.
Our instructors prefer to think of themselves as coaches during the laser tag party, guiding kids and helping them to facilitate effective communication amongst one another during game play. The skills that they learn from this mode of teamwork, we believe, is a special experience that will benefit them greatly in terms of social development and interaction. Of course, laser tag always makes for fun kids birthday parties!
During the first round, our coaches facilitate one-on-one assistance, ensuring the kids get the hang of the laser taggers and understand the game play scenario so they can go ahead and enjoy the game by their own accord to the fullest extent. During game play, parents can relax on the sideline and chat among themselves while observing their youngsters in the ‘heat-of-battle’ and cheering them on!
We have dedicated venues in Cape Town at the Melkbos 4×4 Arena and Wynberg Park in the greater Cape Town Metropole, and also at Helderberg Farm in Somerset West. Our Gauteng Branch has party venues in Sandton, Midrand, Germiston and operate in Pretoria as well. Things to bear in mind.
We take every precaution and pull out all the stops to make sure that children have an absolute blast during game play so that parents can relax on the sidelines for two hours. If you feel like joining your kids for a round, do so by all means. Laser tag is one of the best birthday party games for kids and adults.
We are all about scouting fun places for kids to have birthday parties and can assure you that the day will be one to remember. However, as with any sport or game, there are a few factors you need to keep in mind for the big day.
As any adult well knows, there are some things you just can’t predict, one of them being the weather. After all, laser tag is known for fun outdoor birthday party games for kids.
Make sure each child brings along a warm, waterproof garment in case of rain or strong wind. Our laser taggers are not affected by wind nor rain, and we always see kids having an absolute ball of a time running in the mud and getting soaked;- it all contributes to the fun after all! This means laser tag is also one of the most viable kids winter birthday party ideas.
Conversely, the African sun is nobody’s playmate. If you know it’s going to be a hot day out, pack plenty of sunscreen and make sure every child brings along a hat and even a pair of sunglasses. Laser tag is one of the best kids summer birthday party ideas.
Kids get tired from all the running around which we’re sure you will agree; – is a good thing!. We advise parents to pack some bottled water and small snacks, so the children can take short breaks between games to recharge. If you’re wondering how to entertain kids at a birthday party, you need only keep them energised and leave the rest to us.
It’s recommended for kids not to have a large meal right before the laser tag game: all that running around and ducking and diving could very well upset their tummies!
Also, no need to worry about how kids will be divided into teams. We supply each team with unique bibs so they know who is on their side. Laser Tag really makes for an easy kids birthday party!
If you are researching party ideas for kids birthday parties at home; – remember that our operation is fully mobile.

S.W.A.T Laser Tag games can be played by kids from 6 years and older – both guys and gals can play with ease.
The concept of Cops and Robbers is a very tangible concept and the fun factor of laser tag for the kids is excellent. Back when most of us ‘older kids’ were only knee high it was Cowboys and Indians, with plastic rifles and bows and arrows. Most kids today all have a super hero, have watched action movies and played their fair share of PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Wii etc. This previous experience only enhances the fun factor that the kids experience when playing laser tag. They easily visualize scenarios and get to play them out in a fun, safe and enjoyable environment.
Our core focus at S.W.A.T Laser Tag is to provide a fun, safe yet challenging laser tag party for the kids. Our experienced coaches go above and beyond to ensure that the kids get the hang of the laser tag equipment quickly, so that they can really immerse themselves in the laser tag challenge. We do provide one-on-one assistance during the 1st round or so to help the kids use the laser taggers effectively and aim the laser tag guns accurately. At the end of the day the core focus is to ensure an excellent end user laser tag experience. The kids also practice or learn good communication skills during the laser tag rounds and team work is a natural progression for the kids as they immerse themselves into the laser tag challenge. Our staff prefers to see themselves as coaches, as coaching does ensure an awesome laser tag party for kids birthday parties.
A little more about our laser tag for kids – Equipment and Game-Play
One of the main drawcards of laser tag for a children’s birthday party is the fact that there are no bruises or scrapes involved, as is the case with paintball (which itself is a whole lot of fun for kids turning 12 years and older). A laser tag party is – literally – a painless exercise. Parents and children show up for the game, and move on to another activity or to a meal and beverages.
Laser tag is really very simple. We divide players into teams of two and play an intermediate first round so everyone can get the hang of things, and then gradually move on to more complex scenarios.
The guns communicate with each other via infrared beams. These beams have proven to have a range of thirty to eighty metres in daylight dependant on cloud cover and as much as a 100 metres at nighttime. A general rule of thumb is that, during daytime, shots of around thirty metres or less prove to be the most effective. A player gets ‘shot’ when one of these beams hits the box on their gun. The infra-red beams are totally harmless and will not in any way affect a child when they are struck by one.
Each laser tagger is kitted out with an LCD screen that displays vital statistics such as:
- Kill shots: The amount of players that have been eliminated by the laser tagger.
- Ammunition: How many ‘shots’/’bullets’ are left one the laser tagger.
- Health: How many ‘lives’ are left before you are eliminated (getting shot once equals one life detracted).
- The name of your laser tagger.
- How much time is left for the round at hand.
At the end of each round, the player with the most kills on his display screen is the overall winner; – or the team with the most terminations tallied together is the winning team. Laser tag makes for awesome kids birthday party games for 8 year old’s due to the fact that it teaches their young minds to think tactically.
The display screens on the laser taggers are fully configurable, allowing our coaches to create any scenario you can imagine within the context of the game. This allows players to engage in everything from short, exciting combat rounds, to longer, more strategic game play.
The action-packed factor of the game means that we are especially apt at ringing to life various movie themed birthday party ideas for kids. We have even gone so far as helping parents create star wars birthday party games for kids.
We teach children to go about the game in a smart manner. Accuracy and aiming is pivotal to ensuring successful laser tagging and we encourage kids to use the terrain to their advantage to contrive sneak attacks, ambushes and guerrilla warfare, which all contributes to creating a real sense of teamwork amongst players. It really is one of the most unique birthday party ideas for kids.
S.W.A.T. Laser Tag has been using the converted Tippmann 98 Custom paintball gun since 2010. They are manufactured in the U.S.A. and have proven to be resilient, reliable and effective.
This new generation of laser tag technology provides a safe, fun and easy to play game and the fact that we are fully mobile allows for you to choose the venue – whether it be the safety of your own garden, the scouts hall or local playground. If you would prefer to make a day of it and play at one of our venues, then make the trip and spend a few hours away from the hustle and bustle of the city and allow the kids to play and run in the great outdoors. Most S.W.A.T Laser Tag party events last for 2 hours and a lunch afterwards to allow the kids to discuss their experiences is also a good idea.
